Feb 5th 2012 ----- Billabong Pro Junior Asia ----- Getting there is half the fun!
Article via Surfing Life
Yesterday our motley crew of event staff, media and surfers departed the Gold Coast bound for the Philippines, for the first ever ASP contest to be held at Cloud 9, the Billabong Pro Junior Asia. The wave itself is a dream, but getting there can be a nightmare.
The plane lifted off the tarmac bound for Malaysia, and a one night layover. The Kuala Lumpar airport Starbucks was where we hit our first snag. Gold Coast grom Soli Bailey lost his wallet stacked with credit cards, $300 Aussie and the rest. The kid was clearly rattled by his rookie error, as was his 'Bong team manager, Bow Edwards.
Two bus rides later in the scorching KL heat we were at our hotel, enjoying a curry buffet and able to have a laugh about the whole thing as Soli reflected, "At least it wasn't my passport."
The next morning after checking in for our Philippines bound flight a panicked Bow runs by cursing another 'Bong grom, Mitch Parkinson. "Mitch somehow lost his passport between checking in and dropping off his boards at oversized…"
Rookie error number two was a bigger mistake with bigger consequences, but the kid managed to pull a rabbit out his 'Bong-logo'd hat. Mitch retraced his steps and remembered putting his passport on his boardbag as it went through the X-ray machine. He bribed the ground crew to let him go into the cargo hold under the plane and search for his lost passport.
"They emptied out the whole plane for me," said Mitch. "Then there it was, still sitting on my boardbag, I couldn't believe it! I was almost crying, I was freaking out. I'm so happy I found it, I went to hug the lady that let me go look for it, but she got scared and ran away."
They say bad things come in threes and poor old Noa Deane copped the third and worst blow. Somewhere along the three plane trips, many busses and the four-hour boat ride, he finally succeeded in becoming the first to officially lose his passport. Noa was stressing as right after this event he's off to the Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali, where he's been awarded an event wildcard. He's been on the phone to the Aussie consulate and hopefully he'll have a temporary passport by the time the event is finished, and be all good to get into Bali.
It was a 58 hour mission from home to Cloud Nine and although the journey was at times painful, the boys agreed that they're happy it's not easy too get here as it makes the crowds less crazy, and the tube time feel all the more special.

December 2011 ------ ASL-oha! Huey hits the switch!
....We took his advice and headed west where we bumped into grom Soli Bailey.
“I’ve just snapped my board, but it’s pretty fun,” said Soli. “There’s some solid ones coming through.” As we wandered off to get a coffee Soli sprinted past with a fresh craft in hand. He’s been surfing everyday and eager to prove himself in the big stuff..... article via Surfing Life.

Posting from Paradise | 4th June 2010

The 1st of the month brought the peak of the swell, a deep low well south of West Oz
shot a 19 second sw swell straight at Macaronies, We woke to glassy conditions and
it was obvious that this was going to be our best day yet.
There was only 2 boats in the bay and 5 or 6 surfers at the resort so the line up was
fairly uncrowded and even though one of the boats was full of the hottest young surfers
out of the US as everybody was waiting there turn .
The standard was unbelievable and some amazing surfing went down. - Soli
